4 Easy Ways to “Spring Clean” Your Smile!

Spring has sprung! This time of the year is one of renewal and freshness. While spring cleaning may just bring to mind cleaning your home, it can also include your smile. While a consistent oral hygiene routine is essential to keeping your teeth clean and healthy, there are some other things that can be neglected that also help them. Here are four simple ways to get your smile blossoming for springtime.

Tip #1: Get a New Toothbrush

The end of the year can be nonstop. Between all the holidays and preparing for the new upcoming year, you can forget about the small things—like the state of your toothbrush! Before you know it, most of the bristles are worn down. This can cause your toothbrush to be ineffective at keeping your pearly whites fully clean and free from the buildup of plaque. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends replacing your toothbrush every three to four months. There is no better time to start fresh than the beginning of a season—especially spring!

Tip #2: Give Your Toothbrush Container a Deep Clean

Sometimes the most common—and used—things in your home can get neglected from getting washed or rinsed. As you are doing deep cleaning for spring, be sure to deep clean your toothbrush holder. Since it usually sits on the counter, it is collecting the same germs as the rest of your bathroom. To minimize the spread of bacteria to your brush and mouth, it’s essential to disinfect your toothbrush container. Rinse it in very hot water with dish soap or you can run it in the dishwasher.

Tip #3: Visit Your Dentist for a Checkup & Cleaning

In addition to your daily dental hygiene routine, visiting your dentist for an exam and cleaning is vital to maintaining clean and healthy teeth and gums. In addition to thoroughly polishing your pearly whites, they’ll examine your mouth for any oral health issues so they can be treated before they turn into a more serious problem.

Tip #4: Consider Professional Teeth Whitening

Nothing says fresh and clean like a bright smile! If you really want to spring into the new season, you can get professional teeth whitening from your dentist. Your dentist can provide in-office or at-home options to whiten your smile by up to eight shades.

It’s time for not only your home to be refreshed for spring but your smile! With these helpful tips, you are sure to keep your oral health in top condition this season…and the next.
